Harleysville is a small town located mostly in Lower Salford Township with parts of the town also in Franconia Township. Other townships in the Harleysville area include Towamencin, Skippack and Upper Salford.  The population as of July 1, 2016 was 9,533, a 2.6% increase over the 2010 census number of 9,286.  Mostly rural, the area is located in Montgomery County, PA, 30 miles northwest of Philadelphia and adjacent to the NE extension of the PA turnpike.  While much of the region’s farmlands and woodlands still remain, growth and development in the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s have seen many new homes, businesses, roads, and people.

Brief History Around Harleysville

Harleysville was settled early in Pennsylvania’s history (circa 1700) by Pennsylvania Dutch and takes its name from early settler Samuel Harley. Harleysville is home to an annual Heckler Fest held at the historical Heckler Plains, one of the oldest properties in the area. There’s also an annual Jaycee’s Country Fair Days at the Harleysville Community Center, which many people from close by towns come to.  Harleysville also holds an annual Apple Butter Frolic to celebrate its Mennonite heritage in early fall each year and is home to the Mennonite Heritage Center.  The Klein Meetinghouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

Shopping Around Harleysville

There are numerous shopping, dining and entertainment options for Harleysville Homes for Sale residents. The King of Prussia Mall, the Plymouth Meeting Mall, the Montgomeryville Mall, and the relatively new Providence Town Center are all within a 25 minute drive. Public school children in the Harleysville area attend the Souderton School District if they live in Upper Salford, Lower Salford or Franconia townships. Children in Skippack Township attend the Perkiomen Valley School District and children in Towamencin Township attend the North Penn School District.

As for commuting to work, the Harleysville area offers easy access to Rt 63 (Main St, Harleysville), Rt 113, Rt 73 (Skippack Pike), Rt 363 (Valley Forge Rd), and the PA turnpike interchange at Lansdale. A 15 minute car ride will get you to Kulpsville, where you can pick up the PA turnpike.

They can attend any one of a number of places of worship in and around the Harleysville area, they can see a play at Playcrafters Theater (Skippack Village), they can play a round of golf at the Lederach Golf Club, they can walk, jog or ride a bike in one of the township parks, or they can simply relax on their porch and enjoy the crisp, clean country air.
