Methacton School District – a vibrant and diverse place to live, work, study, shop, worship and enjoy life!

As a lifelong resident of the Perkiomen Valley, a graduate of the Perkiomen Valley School District, and with a 30 year career in real estate, I have a pretty extensive background on the area.  This area includes all of the Methacton School District, which borders two Perkiomen Valley municipalities – Skippack Township and Collegeville Borough.  Here goes.

1 + 1 = 1

The Methacton School District (located in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania) was formed in 1961 when the school districts of Worcester Township and Lower Providence Township decided to merge.  “Methacton” is a Native American word referring to the “hill” area extending from Eagleville in Lower Providence Township through the Fairview Village area of Worcester Township, one of the highest elevations in Montgomery County.  The name was chosen by a majority vote of the community members residing in the District at the time.

The first thing accomplished as the two small districts merged was the opening of the Lower Providence-Worcester Joint Junior-Senior High School in 1961.  The school was later renamed Methacton, and graduated its first class in 1964.  Today the District still serves Worcester and Lower Providence Townships, an area covering 32 square miles.  As of 2015, the population was 38,000.

The Methacton School District Today

The lone high school – Methacton High School – is still located at Kriebel Mill Rd and Germantown Pike in Worcester Township, although it’s seen many renovations and expansions since my American Legion baseball playing days.  The Arcola Intermediate School, which handles grades 7 and 8, is located on Eagleville Rd in Lower Providence Township and is considered a topnotch intermediate school in the Philadelphia metro area.  Skyview Upper Elementary School is also located on Eagleville Rd and is part of a campus environment along with the intermediate school.  Skyview handles grades 5 and 6.  There are five elementary schools strategically scattered throughout the district – Arrowhead, Eagleville, Woodland, Worcester, and Audubon.  A grand total of just about 5000 students are serviced by Methacton School District.

The District is certainly doing something right.  According to’s 2017 Philadelphia Metro rankings, Methacton was voted 19th out of 105 schools in the Best School District category; 27th out of 102 schools in the Methacton School District with the Best Teachers category; 25th out of 102 schools in the Safest School District category.

And the Methacton Area Today

Not unlike the rest of the Philadelphia suburbs, the Methacton School District area has seen extensive commercial and residential growth since its inception in 1961.  And although Worcester has managed to maintain much of its rural roots, Lower Providence has grown by leaps and bounds – especially the Collegeville and Eagleville area along the Ridge Pike corridor and the Audubon area along the Egypt Rd and Eagleville Rd corridors.  You’ll find more information on Methacton’s schools on their website, Twitter and Facebook.

Methacton Happenings keeps you update on all of the events going on in the school district.
